The Peninsula Manila has announced a phased refurbishment of its guest rooms and suites, as well as the unveiling of The Gallery Club Lounge – the hotel’s all-new, 90-seat guest lounge accessible to suite guests, featuring a range of food and live music.
The phased soft renovation of the Makati Central Business District hotel is the most extensive The Peninsula Manila has seen since 2008 and promises to elevate the property to a new level of modern luxury for the comfort of its guests. The refreshed and contemporary look will continue to complement the timeless Filipino character of the guest rooms, while including warmer, brighter, and lighter colors, materials, and fabrics. Enhanced technology touch points, such as bedside control panels, high-definition smart televisions, and more accessible power outlets, will also be added.
Alongside the unveiling of the renovation project in the third quarter of 2019, The Peninsula Manila will offer complimentary access to The Gallery Club Lounge and its accompanying benefits to guests who book directly through The Peninsula website.
Refreshed Rooms
The updated hotel experience will begin on guest-floor foyers and corridors, with freshly laid, plush carpeting welcoming guests with a bright atmosphere and lively journey through the space.
The interiors of the beautifully refreshed guest rooms will feature a natural color palette of blues and grays, creating a bright space that reflects a light tropical style. Soft furnishings will be complemented by locally sourced wood surfaces, stripped by hand to reveal the warmth of their natural grain.
Enhanced finishes include new mattresses, 49- and 55-inch high-definition smart TVs, and bedside light fixtures. To meet the desires of today’s tech-savvy travelers, more accessible power outlets will be positioned throughout the guest rooms; functions can be managed from a bedside control panel; and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone calls – which allow guests to make international calls free of charge – will be provided for added convenience.
The Gallery
In addition to The Peninsula Manila’s refreshed guest rooms, suite guests will be provided access to The Gallery Club Lounge – a relaxing 238 ft (72 sq m) space open 24-hours a day that provides live musical entertainment and all-day refreshments and nibbles, including a breakfast buffet, The Peninsula Afternoon Tea, gourmet canapés and an open bar with a curated selection of spirits and sommelier-selected wines. The thoughtfully designed private lounge is enhanced with custom-designed tables and soft furnishings arranged in an intimate lounge setting.
Guests relaxing in the new, bespoke space can enjoy a view overlooking the hotel’s iconic lobby and monumental “Sunburst” sculpture, a specially commissioned piece by National Artist for Sculpture Napoleon “Billy” Abueva.
Original commissioned artwork by Filipino Figurative Expressionist master Ang Kiukok and beloved cartoonist and humorist Larry Alcala – both acclaimed National Artists for Visual Arts – and prints by Filipino-Spanish contemporary photographer Francisco “Paco” Guerrero adorn the walls. The 18-foot-high (7 meter) floor-to-ceiling glass windows that run the length of the gallery and let in bright, tropical sunlight will transform the space into an “Art Gallery in the Sky” where guests can encounter and experience the works in a setting that is intimate and personal.
Additional perks for those with lounge access include express check-in and check-out, garment pressing, complimentary local calls, and one-hour free use of the board room, as well as round-the-clock business and concierge services.
Enhanced Guest Experience
An outcome of the seven-month, phased, soft renovation of its 351 guest rooms and suites is to provide an even more personalized, unique and long-lasting guest experience.
“This long-anticipated renovation was planned with the intention of keeping The Peninsula Manila relevant and distinctive for our guests, without losing its unique charm,” said Mark J. Choon, General Manager of The Peninsula Manila. “Our challenge was to succeed at maintaining a balance between the much-loved “old” comfort while balancing a fresh and innovation approach,” breathing new life into this local institution. We feel we have achieved this and are excited to share it with the community of Manila, our home for over 40 years.
